AN OPEN INVITATION
All members of Friends Of Malawi are cordially invited to attend the
next scheduled meeting of the FOM Board of Directors, which will be held
at the Tabard Inn, 1739 ‘N’ Street NW, Washington, DC 20036
(202-785-1277), beginning at 9:00 am on Wednesday, September 21, 2011,
just before the Peace Corps’ 50th anniversary celebrations
get into full swing. The agenda will include updates from the Grants
Committee, our Treasurer, the Fund Raising Committee, and reports from
on the ground in Malawi; web
site modifications; discussion about whether we should consider adding
Micro-finance to our activities; and refinement of our Mission, Vision,
and Value Statements. We also are interested in
your suggestions about how
FOM may serve you better.
If you
plan on joining us for lunch that day, please be apprised that the
Tabard Inn requires that you place
your order for lunch no later than one week prior to the meeting. That’s
their rule, not ours: 202-331-8528 is the number for the restaurant
there.
That
evening we plan on dining together, so if you’re interested in joining
us, please email Board member Kristen George (FOMmembership@gmail.com)
now so that we may have an accurate account. By the way, the Tabard Inn
has a superb restaurant.
On
Saturday night most of us have opted to attend the secondary gala, the
Third Goal Bash, which will be held 7:00-11:00 pm at the Smith Center,
George Washington University:
http://www.peacecorpsworldwide.org./babbles/2011/05/12/third-goal-bash/
the admission price is $33.00 per person and will include food,
drinks (beer, wine, soft stuff) and entertainment, as opposed to the
$250-$300 per person cost of the official Gala hosted by Chris Matthews.
The Third Goal Bash will eschew tuxedos and gowns in favor of T-shirts,
shorts and jeans. You may purchase tickets @ Peace Corps Fund, c/o Matt
Losak, 1001 Spring Street, Apt. 316, Silver Spring, MD 20910.
On behalf
of the Board of Directors of the Friends Of Malawi, we look forward to
having you join us in DC beginning on the 21st of September!
Go to the National Peace Corps Association website for more
information about the Celebrations.
Jack Allison, FOM President
