Friends of Malawi (FOM) does not categorize grants, although it does maintain several sectors for grant funding. Current priority areas include:
- Health
- HIV/AIDS
- Education
- Environment
- Human Services
- Agriculture
- Small Business Development
Projects initiated by small- to medium-sized NGOs - especially Malawian-run NGOs or those in which Peace Corps Volunteers are involved - will receive first consideration. Projects originating from within the Malawian Government or managed by the U.S. government will have a lower priority. As a matter of FOM policy, no discretionary grants, loans, or scholarships are ever awarded directly to individuals.
Applications are reviewed on an in-coming basis and awarded based on the seven approval criteria assessed by the review committee. All applications will be considered; however, some applications may not be funded or revisions may be requested.
